The sweet smell of social media success: Old Spice Man

The statistics from the Old Spice campaign in the US tell the story.  P&G was having great success with a new ad campaign promoting Old Spice aftershave, featuring super-cool, American football legend Isaiah Mustafa.  The campaign sees Isaiah move seamlessly from his bathroom, to a boat and onto a horse within 40 seconds http://tiny.cc/o3mka as he attempts to persuade American men to stop borrowing their partner’s flowery fragrant shower gel and be a proper man by using Old Spice.  This advert was aired during the American Superbowl on 7th February 2010.  It soon achieved cult status and attracted 15 million views on YouTube.

Gmail users who click to start Buzz will have a ready-made band of followers from their friends on Gmail, and Google has made it as easy as possible to start following other Gmail users and to be followed, along the lines of Twitter.

A recent survey from B2B Marketing and Newsweaver regarding objectives for email marketing has delivered the following results:

Brand Building: 66%
Driving F2F Activity: 41%
Driving/increasing traffic to your website: 75%
Maintaining customer relationships: 73%
Prospecting: 65%
Up-selling/cross-selling: 52%
Driving direct online sales: 30%
Internal communications: 26%
Other 7%

Click through rates were shown to be the most commonly used email marketing metric with spam and inbox overload the chief threats facing email marketing.

Sharepoint 2010

Microsoft have recently announced some of the preliminary system requirements for SharePoint Server 2010:

-SharePoint Server 2010 will be 64-bit only.
-SharePoint Server 2010 will require 64-bit Windows Server 2008 or 64-bit Windows Server 2008 R2.
-SharePoint Server 2010 will require 64-bit SQL Server 2008 or 64-bit SQL Server 2005.

Microsoft are also focusing on targeting standards based browsers (XHTML 1.0 compliant) including Internet Explorer 7, Internet Explorer 8 and Firefox 3.x. running on Windows Operating Systems.
In addition an increased level of compatibility is likely with Firefox 3.x and Safari 3.x on non-Windows Operating Systems.
Due to this focus Internet Explorer 6 will not be a supported browser for SharePoint Server 2010.
