CMMI Introduction |
Course Overview
This three-day course introduces
students to the CMMI model. It
describes the models fundamental
concepts, followed by discussions of
the continuous model structure, the
capability dimension, and generic
practices of the model. The
remainder of the course discussion
is structured by the five categories
of process areas (PAs), examining
each PA and the specific goals and
practices that apply to it.
This course is suitable for mainstream project staff and managements associates with Software Development, Maintenance or Management
activity.
What will I learn?
The course is based on the current
version of the CMMI model, available
in two representations that
organizations can use to evaluate
and improve their ability to develop
and maintain systems. This course
enables participants to make valid
judgments regarding an
organizations implementation of the
process areas. Two hours of reading
homework will be assigned for the
first and second evenings of the
course.
The course is designed for
systems and software engineering
managers and practitioners
interested in understanding the
model, and for assessment team
members and process group members
who will use the model for
assessments or process improvement.
Two hours of reading homework will
be assigned for the first and second
evening of the course.
Course Contents
Students completing this course will
be able to:
- Describe the process management and improvement principles that underpin the CMMI model

- Interpret the CMMI model as a member of a CMMI-Based appraisal team
- Apply the CMMI principles to meet the needs of systems and software development organizations
- Model-Based Process Improvement
- Overview of CMMI Components
- Institutionalization
- Process Areas of CMMI Maturity Models
- Structure of the Continuous and Staged Representation
Prerequisites
Participants must have knowledge
of systems engineering, software
engineering, and management,
with exposure to quality
assurance and configuration
management. Completion of this
course is a prerequisite for
